Shaw Trust is a national charity which supports disabled and disadvantaged people to prepare for work, find jobs and live more independently. The Trust
believes everyone has the right to work and has campaigned for over 25 years to turn this vision into a reality.
Every year the Trust works with over 75,000 clients who face barriers due to disability, ill health or social circumstance. Thousands of employers and public sector organisations also benefit from its range of services for business.
The Shaw Trust is the UK’s largest third sector provider and one of the Government’s lead partners in the delivery of employment programmes for disabled and disadvantaged people. Within Sunderland, the Trust delivers Work Choice, a Department of Works and Pensions programme aimed at those whose disability means they face serious and often complex barriers to work and for whom mainstream provision may not be appropriate. One of the critical success criteria of this programme is maximising participation of people in contact with secondary mental health services to work more than 16 hours a week.
